Client Context
An agency specializing in local business outreach that needed to scale their lead qualification process. Their team was manually researching businesses from directory scrapes — checking websites, reading reviews, and scoring prospects in spreadsheets — a workflow that consumed 3-4 hours per batch of 50 leads.
The Business Challenge
The core engineering challenge was building a reliable AI scoring pipeline that could process hundreds of leads without rate-limiting issues, while correctly parsing CSV files with multi-line markdown content in quoted fields. Additionally, the system needed to auto-enrich leads on import — mapping ratings, review counts, Instagram handles, and pain points from external tool exports into structured scores and notes.

Engineering the Solution
We built a character-by-character streaming CSV parser that correctly handles multi-line quoted fields and dynamically detects column presence (with or without optional fields like Pain Points and Instagram). Three Deno edge functions power the AI layer: one for multi-dimensional lead scoring via Gemini AI, one for extracting structured business data from any URL, and one for automated daily follow-up digests. Row-Level Security on all 6 database tables ensures complete per-user data isolation.
